Chancellor quizzed over rec tax avoidance scandal

The tax avoidance scandal deployed by the Anderson Group has been brought to the Chancellor’s attention, as MPs question whether the lost taxes - which could amount to millions of pounds for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) - will be recovered.

The recruitment financial services firm, Anderson Group, promoted a scheme where almost 2,000 mini companies were created to exploit VAT and national insurance rules which were originally designed to help small businesses. Experts have said that the arrangement raises questions over triggering a possible criminal investigation – The Guardian reports

    This si why "umbrella" payment companies should be outlawed - people should pay tax and NI they should at point of payment. Companies who pay by these methods make the market almost impossible for honest recruiters to compete in.
