An applicant claims to have had a job offer revoked because of her hairstyle.

Lara Odoffin is a graduate of Bournemouth University. She recently wrote on Facebook about a company that had withdrawn a job offer because she had braided her hair.

    Does not sound peculiar to anyone else?

    It's easy to make an accusation against an unnamed company - they withdrew the offer due to age, sex, weight, height, hair colour, didn't like my shoes

    There is no one to refute your claims so unless she's going to name the company then this sounds like either an elaborate wind up or plain attention seeking

    I'm now waiting for the follow up article where she's offered a job by someone who wants to prove their kind heart and diversity credentials

    To be honest I am so sick of people saying "but I am an individual, I should be accepted for who I am" , actually no you shouldn't, you are going to be part of a team, where an expectation of conforming is expected of you, where a company may well have an image they wish to protect, or customers who wish to buy from a certain type of brand.. IT is MY RIGHT to say you don't fit my standards, I have a choice also.. you want to work for me then you fit in with what I deem to be acceptable and if not.. go work somewhere else

    Racist!! Hahaha you wally. Nothing racist about it. Black women can have other styles, they can straighten their hair or just live with what they have!

    I would love to understand the justification for this as it smacks of the bad old days when women were not allowed to wear trousers because of company image! I am not a black woman but have often admired the braded hairstyles of my colleagues which in my opinion are not only stylish but also very neat, tidy and smart.

    I should have the right as the employer to inform an employee that a suitable dress code that agrees with the company ethos should be adhered to. As long as you are enforcing this unilaterally across the company and not just for a single individual, i don't see the problem at all.
