Recruiters overwhelmingly reject benefits of flexible working

Whilst most of the UK workforce are calling for flexible working, 63% of recruiters are uncomfortable with the idea of setting their own hours.

Furthermore, a recent 8x8 study of 500 recruitment consultants believe that their business is actually wasting time. The survey found that consultants believe that a quarter of the working week is wasted.

Despite attempts to integrate new technology into established practises to combat wastage, the average consultant says they’re wasting more than 10 hours every week.

And, it’s the failure to fully integrate new technology into working practises that appears to be putting recruiters off the idea of flexible working.

8x8 found that 96% of surveyed recruiters would feel comfortable working remotely if they could pick up calls to their office and use their laptop effectively.

Kevin Scott-Cowell, UK MD at 8x8 added that the recruitment industry’s mindset could potentially be changed if they had the right recruitment software to ensure flexible working can be a success.

He said: “While many recruiters are already using technology to increase productivity and improve the experience for both clients and candidates, a significant number have yet to take full advantage.

“By making sure they have the right communications technology in place that can integrate with existing systems, recruiters can get the full picture of their interactions with clients and candidates, all in one place. This doesn’t have to be a huge financial commitment, but will undoubtedly help recruiters to work more productively.”
