Why are jobseekers moving to China?

Candidates from the UK, Australia and Ireland are packing up their belongings and heading over to China, in search of a new jobs market.

According to research from TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), more and more jobseekers are booking themselves onto internships in the country, with experts dubbing it a “hotspot” for candidates wanting to enter the teaching profession.

Since 2009, there has been an 1800% rise of bookings from Australia, a 532% rise from the UK and an increase of 200% from Ireland.

Gordon Mathie, Managing Director of i-to-i part of the Teach And Travel Group, commented on what this means for the recruitment industry: “The consistent rise of interest in China confirms that this destination is an attractive hotspot for teachers and TEFL job seekers.

"Due to this interest, in 2017 we’re launching a new internship specifically for University graduates and we’re expecting to see the positive China trend continue.”
